Email Spam and Phishing
Phishing e-mails usually contain a link or email address, encouraging you to click the link or respond in some way. Phishing emails are getting increasingly clever. Recently I have seen fake Paypal emails with a convincing sender address and layout. They sau there is an urgent problem with the recipients Paypal account.
- Treat all emails with suspicion if they contain a link, attachment, or urgent instruction and very little else.
- If there is a web link or attachment in the e-mail don't click it - you are at risk of downloading a virus.
- Do not reply to the sender of any suspicious email before you have verified the sender, this could invite more spam.
- If in doubt, copy and paste the text and/or sender address into google - phishing emails will often show up as a known email scam in the search results.
